22 Jan Don’t hide from…The ONE METRIC that proves you’re building your dream
If you want to change your life, finish that project, grow your business, you’ve got to understand five things:
(1) Intentions and projects, over vision and goals. You must have strong intentions and they must be backed up with projects we can see in your diary.
(2) Projects often come in order. Building a sales page won’t lead to sales. It’s a project that leads to the next project, which is getting out and doing business development. Don’t get stuck in the ‘feeder project’ for too long (it feels like work, but it isn’t really).
(3) There is often one clear metric per outcome that proves beyond any doubt you’re doing the right work and truly want the result. In my recruitment company it was sending emails to HR managers. When I worked as a door-to-door salesperson it was knocking on doors. In my online education business, it’s running webinars and events, positioning my offers.
(4) You’re going to fail a lot more than you succeed. Business is about making predictions based on the data you have e.g. I think this is my customer, I think this is what they want, I think this is where they are, I think this is how I sell to them…and you test it! The more testing you do (i.e. execution), the more data you get and the better you get!
(5) Never play so big you get taken out of the game! There is a degree of risk inherent in building a business, of course. But, you take big risks based on big data / big feedback. Don’t go all in on a guess. You go all in on data you’ve earned, likely over years of guesswork. A lot of people are hoping for results, when really they’re still only due feedback.
